I know this may seem like a stupid, but no-brainer question, but can sketchbooks be used as scrapbooks? I'm only asking because I have a lot of huge newspaper articles in my room that I need to put in some type of scrapbook. I'm looking for maybe one that's 11 x 14.

Personally, as an artist I think sketchbooks make wonderful scrapbooks!! For one, the pages tend to be a heavier weight of paper (so it's pretty durable)and two, sketchbooks come in many sizes--running the gamut from small to very large. In fact, finding one that is 11 x 14 shouldn't be a problem whatsoever since that is a common size. Another advantage--since it is a sketchbook, you can go totally creative and decorate your new scrapbook with whatever media you wish!! :-) Depending on where you live, try Michael's or Hobby Lobby. Smaller, more specialty art supply shops are great, but they do tend to be pricier than the larger chain stores. Hope all this info helps. BTW, the only 'stupid' question is the one that is never asked. ;-)

You should totally be able to use a sketchbook as a scrapbook. The only thing that I would be cautious about is whether the paper in the sketchbook is acid free. If you are planning on putting any photos into the book it is best to go with something that is acid free as the acid in certain papers and products will reduce the lifespan of your treasured photos. If you have a lot of newspaper articles, I would recommend covering them with some sort of sheet protector to keep them safe as well. If you aren't able to find an acid free sketchbook, I am sure that you would be able to find an actual scrapbook large enough to fit everything. A standard scrapbook is 12 x 12 and for a decent one they run about $30.00. Hope this helps you out some!

Well, yeah. A sketchbook is whatever you want it to be, and it'll probably be a lot cheaper than a scrapbook. ;) Never let yourself suffer from Functional Fixedness. Let your imagination run wild with your everyday stuff.

They can be, they are much more expensive though. I found by keeping articles in poly pockets in folders is much more useful because that way I'm amn't losing one side of the article (sometimes its stuff from magazines on both sides) and also they preserve a little better.
