Late May. Water levels are very high so the rivers and waterfalls are spectacular, and most of the kids are still in school.

I know campsites get booked up to six months in advance for the summer months. Book early is my suggestion. If you choose to stay in a hotel, the Yosemite Lodge is a good affordable option.
