Gee was that an attempt to be clever? If so, it failed miserably. It also shows a profound lack of empathy for the tragedy that this country (United States) suffered on Sept. 11, 2001. If you want information about an occurence in Chile, look to the Chilean media for it.
I am familiar with the date in question and the events, but it wasn't Americans. While the CIA had some involvement, the attacks were carried out as a military coup by Pinochet. Again nice try at being clever. Overthrowing governments was a CIA pastime in those days. Why not mention Operation Ajax, or the Bay of Pigs, or any number of others. It happened that is the best that can be said, but old news is never going to replace current events. It's called ratings and that's what the media lives for.

Well, there's no worldwide hunt, since there's no mystery as to who dunnit.
At the time, there was some coverage. Carl Jenkins (founder of Project Censored) told a group about a survey of Americans' attitudes about that event and our involvement in it, as a function of where people were getting their news.
The highest approval was from those who got their news solely from non-news radio. Then those who got their news from network TV. Disapproval ran high among newspaper readers.
There was a movie made about it: Missing. Cissy Spacek was looking for her boyfriend who was disappeared at that time. His Dad (Jack Lemmon) was a staunch Republican who came down to Chile to find out what happened. Good movie.
Gee, I wonder why that movie didn't get much play in the U.S.?
I had hoped, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, that we might look at our behavior during the Cold War and see it for what it was.
Yes, I was a fool.

I don't know what part of the country u all live in but it's definitely in overkill here in the east.
Sorry I missed that point all together. As you are aware Nixon & Kissinger were totally behind this. They had been warned by the US ambassador to have nothing to do with a Chilean facist group called:'" Patria y Liberta ". So Henry K. told the CIA to get in touch with them but do not let the ambassador know about it. "P y L" and the CIA agent tried to persuade the Military "Chief of Staff" to join in the coup. He refused and remained loyal to Pres. Allande. They suppossedly tried to kidnap him, so that he would not warn the Pres. Somehow he was accidentally shot in the attempt. Then then chose the spineless traitor Pinochet , who jumped at the chance. When they stormed the palace, Pinochet claims Allende committed suicide. Believe that if you want. Thanks for reminding me of the date.

Outside of the History Channel these type of things are irrelavent to the average American. Its old history and it was in another country therefore nobody will care, and nobody will make a tv show about it. That is sad though because history does, can, and will repeat itself. Most people are concerned with modern day terrorism and turn a blind eye to the past events and where terrorism has its roots.

Let's see....because September 11, 2001 was about the United States being attacked and we're in....ah....the United States. Something that happened in Chile should have TV specials and information in Chile. Not so hard to figure out.

I agree,
the mining companies had thier way.
this is a story that is repeating itself......sadly.
we overthrow a democratic government elected and put in a dictator....
most people should also finish reading the question.
it happened in Guatemala, Chile, Cuba, Greneda, Panama, Iraq, Iran in 53, even our ally in Vietnam, it goes on and on.

Because our corrupt government controls the media (the FCC), and they apparently don't care about Chile. Its kinda messed up. But, I guess Chile doesn't have any oil they want to control.

The government loves coverups and bullsh*tting their country. They lie about terrorism now a days, they lie about stuff from hundreds of years ago. It'll never change.
