I have 20 piercings (most over 3-5 years old) and sometimes when they're agitated by clothing or movement they tend to get sore or red.
ok first off, dont listen to the morons saying to use alcohol, that won't help and it may even make it worse.
Second, dont remove or MOVE the piercing. Piercings heal from the inside out and moving it makes it harder to heal as fast.
When cleaning it, clean around it. You can use a variety of things to clean it such as saline solution (contact drops), warm sea salt water, or H2Ocean which is made specifically for piercing aftercare. Clean it about 3 times daily. And if there are "Crusties" that are just driving you nuts and you HAVE to get them off, first apply the liquid you use to soften them and remove them with a Q-tip.
Fingers on a tender piercing just make things worse.
Good luck and if things don't clear up in 2-5 days consult your body piercer.

Take out the piercing, clean both the belly button and piercing well with rubbing alcohol. Leave the piercing out for a few days, and let the infection run its course, but make sure to clean it well every night, use Dial soap on the area in the shower and use rubbing alcohol on it 2 times a day. If this doesn't work within a week, see a doctor.

Belly ring piercings are subject to infections that can get very nasty, very fast.. A topical over the counter antibiotic will most likly not help with this one... It is unusual that after 6 years you are having problems, but just the same, you need to see a doctor and fast.. The bigger part of the infection could be on the inside.. I worked at a summer camp in the early 90's as a life guard.. Swimming in a river daily.. This caused my infection in my belly ring, it had to come out, I was pissed.. I was one of very few men with a belly ring.. They were almost unheard of at that time..

Well a piercing can get irritated even years later after it was first installed. Many groups of today are not recommending piercings. The expert of all doctors would most likely suggest that you remove the piercing and let the wond heal.
You have a choice to make. What is in the "cream"?

antibiotics are made of chemicals. Why would you clean your piercing with chemicals?? use sea salts. They work the best... How long has this been going on?? if just recently, have you been wearing tight clothes, or swimming in a new place (could have some wierd bacteria growign there)?? Make sure you really understand the things you are doing and the way you clean up, if it still persists go to the place you got it pierced.

It might be an infection...you can get infections years after getting it done if you don't clean it well enough. I've had my navel pierced for 7 years and it's gotten infected twice. Both times were after the first few years. Use bactine, and antibiotic creams on it and keep it dry.

The best person to ask would be the person who pierced it or call a place that does piercing and ask, they always know what to ask to get to the bottom of the problem.

as much as i admire physique mods, there's a line and this "piercing" crosses it. it is techniques sugery. you're drilling a hollow on your head, exposing your techniques to the exterior worldwide and all infections that comprise it. it is basically inquiring for Menengitis and different infections.

Mine acts up to from time to time. Jeans can rub it, lots of things. Just clean it with antibacterial soap and it will be fine again.
