wages most certainly can be garnished for a "credit card" debt... AFTER they sue you and WIN A JUDGEMENT.


It happened to me, and they took 25% for a couple pay periods before I filed chapter 7.. I think it depends on the state.. It was 25% here in WA though.

According to federal law up to 25% of your net income. It goes up to 50% if your paying child support and 60% if you're not. No matter how many creditors you owe, they will all share the 25%.
But you should also check your state laws on garnishment orders, as some states, like Texas, doesn't allow for wage garnishment (unless it's for child support, federal taxes or government backed student loans).

Wages cannot be garnished for credit card debt. It happens when you fail to pay for a federal loan or child support, etc

I think I read 39 percent on the US Dept of Labor's website, unless it is child support which could be 50 to 60 percent.
