As long as you know who the father of the child is and where he lives you should be able to file at the court house.

I am also a single mother so im very familiar with this topic. I initially tried to work things out with the father until he kept making false promises. I have never been one to beg or ask anyone for anything, but you did not bring a child into the world alone so he is just as much responsible as you are. I went to the District Attorneys office and filed through the state because i could not afford to get a lawyer. The process can be long but just know that you are doing this for your child. I went to court several times before an order was made. At first they couldnt find him to serve him and just a bunch of bull. The only thing i can say is that when you do go to court just be sure that you have all the documents they require (birth certificate/ proof of birth, child care expenses, light bills, check stubs etc) You should be ok if you do your part.

Call the court house and ask them how to get a child support case started.
If you have a child support case already established and the father is not paying - you can still call the court house and they can help you with your questions.

You might not be married but you didn't have that child by yourself! I would suggest finding a lawyer and have the lawyer bill the father's child to enter child support with the courts.

Check with the local courthouse and seek legal services. You will probably need a paternity test for proof of the father to start.
How old is the child? Have you discussed child support with the alleged father and is he agreeable?

As in from the child's father? Go to your local District Attorney's office. Most (if not all) states have established special task forces to track down dead-beat dads.
You should also approach your local welfare office. There are programs out there specifically for helping to support children: AFDC (Aid for Dependent Children), WIC (Women, Infants, Children) Nutrition, Medicare, etc. If you don't ask, no one's going to volunteer to help.
