If you were the sole survivor of a shipwreck in the middle of the ocean, what would you do to stay alive?
What you DO NOT have with you: compass, any communication device, maps.
What you DO see in sight: floating debris, a bucket or (empty) plastic container, rope, a shard of glass, a piece of a shiny metallic object, some rags, a cigarette lighter or box of matches, and some small pieces of wet food (that will last you for half a day).

When I say floating debris, except for all the following objects that I've meantion, I also mean pieces of the ship.

I'd try to make a raft out of the objects you mentioned. But I probably wouldn't succeed and end up dying.

Anything I could to survive. I would then float to a deserted Island find a volley ball and call it Wilson. Learn to start a fire with two sticks. Build a shelter, look for water and what food may exist on the island. Search the shoreline for debris washed up from whatever wreck I was on.

i would McGuyver the glass, metal object, and matches into a signaling device to hail passing aircraft. I'd enjoy the wet food, and the bucket is my PortaPotty while I wait.

I'd prey for dolphins.
why? I've heard stories of them keeping people afloat and taking them towards shipping lanes or land.
