If you study in a English medium school or a private school you will be taught in English anywhere in India. But in a state run schools the medium of teaching is by the state language i.e if it is Delhi, Haryana or MP you will be taught in Hindi, If it is Gujrat in Gujrati, in West Bengal - Bengali, In Assam - Assamese, In J&K - Kashmiri, In Tamilnadu - Tamil, In Andhra Pradesh - Telgu, In Kerela - Malyalam .....so on an so forth! It is a long list and there are many languages in India, The written work is in the language that you learn in ( so that would be hindi, bengali, tamil, telgu etc,etc... ). In the state run schools they do have English as a compulsory subject from 2nd grade onwards in most of the states.
Hope I could help!

Halo's answer is correct. Writing depends on the medium of teaching - English or Hindi (the National language which is spoke by the majority in India). Besides we also have convent schools on an All India pattern where the medium is essentially English. The education system is a very good one with a 10+2+3 pattern where the first 10 years are common, then 2 years when one branches out to science, arts, commerce, and then the college (graduation) for 3 years. Otherwise 10+2+the medical or engg. profession that consists of 5 years. This one does after the 12th standard (grade) after qualifying in the varioius entrance examinations.

The First Language is English....the Second one is your State Language. If any student is studying in an English School (Convent), the medium of instruction will be English. But, some schools also have two divisions...as State Language Medium and English Medium. Most of the people prefer English Medium.

Depends on where they are. Up in North India, it will generally be English and Hindi (as Hindi is the prevalent Language in the North). In South India, it will be the state's language with English and maybe Hindi as the third language (which is generally optional).
