All I want to do is play tunes with it. I want to "line out" into my home stereo and use it like any other stereo component. I know that IPods will convert and play other file formats. Are there any other advantages to owning an IPod? Other MP3 players seem much less expensive. I don't care about accessories, by the way.

I love my ipod....I think there is a huge advantage--You can hold so much more music it is worth the extra money and the songs are so much easier to find--I have 2,500 and room for many more on my ipod plus i also have audio books and you can put pictures on them too...If you get the video one that is 299 you can watch tv and shows on them also movies when you are bored or taking a long trip.. Ps I got mine for 199 20 gig so you can find them cheaper all over , maybe get a refurbished one...

The iPod is just the most elegant, easy to use MP3 player out there. Sure you can get something by RIO and sit there dragging your finger on a little strip over and over again to scroll through songs...or you can just use the click-wheel and scroll through thousands of songs in seconds. Your choice! To be fair, Samsung's players have gotten pretty high marks but I don't think they have a 30 or 60 gig monster, which is what the true music lover will want.

I have both an iPod and a small CFGear MP3 player. I am leaning more towards the CFgear machine because it is smaller and easier to use.
