Segregated to a certain extent yes. However there are places up north such as the rogers park area whereby you can actually see numerous people from different religious and ethnic backgrounds living in one area. I prefer living in chicago.

Never been to LA, but as for Chicago, I've always been impressed at how well all the different ethnic groups get along so well in such a crowded, gridlocked city. The neighborhoods are still very segregated from what I can tell. Strange that people get along fine when they are socializing, but when they are at home, they don't want anything to do with someone from a different race or ethnic background. Just a thought, not saying I'm right. Good question.

I am a former chicago resident, who currently lives in Phoenix, AZ. Chicago is a great city, its pretty segerated with its ethnic groups but there are many mixed communities. The only downside to the city is the cold and snow. If you're not one who enjoys making snowmen and going ice skating outside then you'd probably be better off in LA, even though its much more expensive.

I don't know but I've been to LA and I would say segregated not really at all. Integration yes, I think segregation might still be active in the south but nationwide it is a thing of the past no??

Chicago is not segregated. One key difference is you have to drive from neighborhood to neighborhood in LA - in Chicago, most people walk or take public transportation. You're constantly in touch with people from all walks of life. My friend's $12 million house is 2 blocks from housing projects - doesn't make a difference to the kids on the playground.
to "I stil need" below: my NFP works with grade schools in both the Gold Coast (chestnut & state) and Lake View (belmont & broadway), both of which are only 25% white - how do you figure that these are white segregated neighborhoods?

Chicago is a tough town. It is highly segregated, along the lines of the ultra rich and desperately poor.
I would prefer not to live in either LA or Chicago, but at least it's warm in LA and the scenery is pretty.

If LA was anywhere but in CA, it has better weather and better things to do.
Chicago is a great place to visit, but.....

I WOULD HAVE TO SAY LA IS MORE SEGRGATED THAN CHICAGO. I WOULD LIVE IN CHICAGO OVER LA. LA IS VERY PRICEY, EARTHQUAKES AND FAKE. CHICAGO IS REAL AND VERY FUN I WOULD CHOOSE CHICAGO.
