Yes but only if you had it from when it was a baby. It would probably be easier if you could breed a domesticated version like the fancy rat which is a lot easier to tame than a wild rat.
As I understand it capybaras might require special conditions like somewhere to swim and a large social group to mix with. So not ideal pets, maybe.

To keep a capybara, you need a Dangerous Wild Animals permit as I found out when I wanted to get one.
They live for about 10-12 years in captivity. They'd be pretty hard to take care of, I would imagine, as they're fairly large (1 metre+ nose to tail) and well built. You would need a large area to keep them in, and a pond, preferably quite large, as they are semi-aquatic.

Possible, yes. Recommended, no.
Unless you really know what you're doing, it will be difficult to provide a healthy environment for a gigantic, semi-aquatic rodent.
And it'll probably just end up cowering under the sink, all moist and sticky, instead of addressing the UN and fighting crime with you like in your fantasies.

Good question. Not sure why you'd want to keep the worlds largest rodent, but still a good question.
As I remember, they are very aquatic, liking to hide out in swamps or rivers. I don't think that I'd want to provide the appropriate habitat for them.

Yes. I've heard of people who have done it. It's probably not even that hard, maybe a bit harder than taking care of a dog. Your problem will most likely be getting one and finding out whether they're allowed where you live. You might also have trouble finding a veterinarian who knows how to deal with them.

What a great idea! You're going to need a very big wheel for it to run in though! How big is your house man?
