I am 18 and I work and wanted somewhere to put my money instead of hiding over $200 in my pants pocket every week, not to mention it will stop me from spending it >< I don't want to pay a monthly fee or anything, anyone know a bank that has little or no fees? I live in louisiana if that helps any.

Shop around for the best deal. The easiest way is to research online first. A lot of banks offer free checking but usually with a catch - you have to have your paychecks direct deposit with them and maintain a certain balance or they'll charge you a fee. Don't be afraid to ask about hidden fees and have a person at the bank explain everything in detail to you. Just do your homework before opening an account.

Just go to your nearest bank and ask them about the free checking, the free checking , you won't have to pay no kind of fees but, the catch is to keep your account active you must keep a certian amount of money in there, it usally works for the first timer, and it may be nice if told them you would just woull like the ATM master debit card and no checks, the card works like a credit card and it keeps you from writting out bad checks, which you could go to jail for, and the good thing about the card is if you don't have no money in the account you can not purchuse anything,...................... good luck

If you're a student a lot of times large banks like Wells Fargo, etc, will have special Student Checking, which waives a lot of regular fees. If not, check out your area for local credit unions- they tend to be more generous than a big bank!

When deciding on a bank, you should check with is close to you. If you chose a bank that is too far from you (with little atm machines) you find yourself still keeping the money on you or not going to the atm when you need money.

Wells Fargo has a great student account program (no I don't work for them :))
