switch off if you have decent players who are quick, then pick up his man.
but if it's a loose sloppy pick you can bust through it.
most of the time you have to just call out, "switch" and hope your
team mate can pick it up.
Have Fun:)

If your team can play Zone defense well play Zone. But teams use the pick and roll when u swtich to man. So the best thing to do is call swtich and stay close to the defender and make sure u stay between the basket and the defender. The key thing here is, a person that can shoot very well will call for the pick usually. so wut happens when u switch a the person dribbling will come around and pull up. so the person switiching should step up with one foot and b ready to put a hand in teh face and or stop the player from driving to the basket. The switcher has two things to think about. Lets say a pg asks for a pick and that screen comes from some power forward the defender of the pf comes also too right? that guy can usually gaurd the pg because of his size. but the switch caused ur pg defender to gaurd the pf. So now wut do u do? try not to let the pass get there.. This is what Dallas does.. and Dirk shoots over the person, its quite impossible to gaurd unless u have a tall pg and a tall pf. So if zone is played properly they shouldn't b able to pull this pic and roll on u. if they do. ur zone is weak and rotation is weak. On Man defense try the things i told u. If you need to know anything else let me know. Email me

Try to play big mans who can defend. So they can allow mis match when they do pick and rolls..
TEAM USA got beat by Greece because they didn't expect Greece to play Pick and Roll Basketball.. You gotta remember that's old school basketball.. Majority of the players in TEAM USA are 23, 24 yrs old.. They didn't have time to adjust and allowed more errors and confusion.
Basically Greece played them Smart Basketball antics..
We should learn from it and move on..

If you're in the "paint", switch. Above the free-throw line or out in the corners away from the basket, it is better for the defender who is guarding the offensive player setting the "pick" to take a "half-step" away from his man and prevent the offensive player for whom the "pick" is being set from driving by him and his teammate. This "half-step" will allow the other defender who is being "picked" time enough to go around the screener and regain defensive position.

you got to be quick on your defensive rotations, when one guy sees a pick coming he's got to yell "switch" and let the defender of the player setting the pick rotate to guard his man. Half a second is all the advantage a good player needs, so it has to happen right away.

Recognize it quickly and communicate with your teammate that you two need to switch men you are defending. As soon as you sense a pick and roll is coming up yell "Switch", your teammate takes your man, you take his man man. You stay with the man setting the pick, and follow him to the hoop when he "rolls" and your teammate stays with the guy who will be passing the ball to the guy "rolling."

Zone defense.
Or you can send in a goon to clobber a couple players and then they will quit running the pick & roll. Ask John Chaney.
