RK,
A gay man is a male who is sexually attracted to other men. A Lesbian is female that is sexualy attracted to other females. Gay men and women don't want to change genders.
Transgender people are those that feel they are born the wrong sex and wish to become the other sex. They often get the surgeries or dress up as the opposite sex.
There is big difference.
Look at the acronym for this site: GLBT: gay, lesbian ,bisexual & transgender.

My wife is actually is Female to Male transgender. She wants to be a guy and will eventually go through surgery to become one. This is not to make things "easier" so that we will be "straight", she has felt like she should be a guy since she was very young. Our friends don't understand it, especially our Lesbian friends who often ask me if I'm still a Lesbian. (the answer is yes, I will always be attracted to women, but my partner for life is just that - a partner for life, what she goes thorough I go with her, and if it means using different pro-nouns so be it - she/he will still be the person I love and married)

I'm totally in love with being a man. There are many aspect of being a male that I wouldn't trade in for nothing in the world. Perhaps that's why I consider myself as being G0Y. Sure there are pressures and perhaps it would be much easier being a woman, with a guy at my side. None the less; I somehow feel that if that were the case I would find myself in another forum discussing issues on glass ceiling issues, and misogynistic behavior towards females.

someone who feels they are/wants to be the opposite sex is transgendered/transsexual.
it wouldn't "make things" easier. maybe for straight people who don't understand, it would.
you must not know a lot of gays/lesbians....because those that "take characteristics of the opposite sex" is a stereotype. some might fit that, but that is a minority.

Good grief NO! You do not understand what being Gay means..you are putting it into your context only...get out of your small box and realize their are different strokes for different folks. And I do not see these characteristics you are talking about ..do you ever wear slacks? How about Jeans? Shirts? Tee shirts? If you do, should I assume you would rather be a guy? Hmmmmmm

Not at all! I'm very happy being a girl. Every now and then I think that I wouldn't mind having some male equipment, but only if I could keep all my girly equipment as well.

lol. I am straight, but sometimes wish I was the opposite gender for silly reasons. Strength, jobs, I think I would make a cute guy.

Nope. While I may admire the occasional "straight" guy I wouldn't change who I am even if I could.

Not at all - I want to be me - I LOVE my life and the person I am and the friends I have - I love my husband. I love my body and how it looks and his and how it looks. No changes for us!
