The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you're interested in.

I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal & Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box.

Associations may be a good avenue to explore. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

Restaurant Specific:
* The Restaurant Business Start-up Guide by Paul Daniels
* Restaurants That Work: Case Studies of the Best in the Industry by Martin E. Dorf
* Restaurant Financial Basics by Raymond S. Schmidgall
* Opening a Restaurant or Other Food Business Starter Kit: How to Prepare a Restaurant Business Plan and Feasibility Study by Sharon Fullen
* Upstart Guide Owning & Managing a Restaurant by Roy S. Alonzo
* The Restaurant Managers Handbook: How to Set Up, Operate, and Manage a Financially Successful Food Service Operation by Douglas Robert Brown

Florida Specific:
* How to Start a Business in Florida by Entrepreneur Press
* How to Start a Business in Florida, 7E by Mark Warda

There are plenty of free informational resources out there. Check the source box for links to articles.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

Go down to your local courthouse. There is an area where you can purchase your business license. They are going to tell you what all you will need in order to open a restaurant. I do know that you are going to need a health permit. They will come and inspect your restaurant to make sure that you are up to code. You need to get all of the insurance you possibly can in case anyone got sick and decided to sue. I am moving to florida in 5 months maybe I will look up your restaurant.

Here are some resources

1. Licenses, you can get licensed at your local business licens office - here is a link to all of business license offices in the country by state: http://www.sba.gov/hotlist/license.html

2. In terms of business insurance- The best way to get educated is to visit your local independent insurance agent. This is what they do for a living and each state has specific requirements.
Here is also a good resource: http://www133.americanexpress.com/osbn/tool/insurance/insurancetool.asp

3. In terms of writing a business plan or other start up questions, this may be a good resource as well http://www.nomorecubes.com/the-big-startup-kit/

Hope this helps!

You should be able to get most of that information through your local government center. Decide where first you will be opperating your restaurant. Is it in the city or the county? They will give you the specifications on what is required. You will probably need to also check with the local ABC if you decide to provide alcohol.
Good luck!

Contact your local SBA. For the Jacksonville area go to http://www.sba.gov/fl/north/index.html, for the Miami area go to http://www.sba.gov/fl/south/index.html. Click on "Startup Kit" and you will find out your state and local requirements under "Startup Basics".

Hope this helps.

Check with the health dept first to see what you have to do and what kind of inspections you will need. From there contact the dept of labor.
