Ferdinand Magellan -First voyage around the World and the list goes on with explorers of firsts. Saramago is a well known writer and won the Noble prize. Fernando Pessoa , a poet second to none.Aristides Sousa Mendes saved thousands of Jews from Hitler by giving 30.000 or so visas so they could escape to Lisbon on then to US etc. Died pennyless because of his actions. The list goes on with some names you may recall again and with names you never heard of.
