Each notch in a key is a specific depth, which can be described as a number. If a locksmith knew the brand and the original 'code', they can use a special key cutter to make another key.

However, that code is rarely ever printed on the key. Usually, you need to contact someone with a database for that device, then find out what code the number on the key refers to. Car makes do this all the time- but I don't know of too many others who do.

I'd just call a locksmith.
