I need to find out if a divorce is finalized but I live out of state. The other person is being stubborn and refuses to let me contact them to see if the papers were already turned in. Is there anyway I can check for myself to see if it has already been filed?

The divorce was uncontested and the parpers were sent to my ex since I cannot file in my state because I have not lived here long enough to become a resident. No lawyers were needed because it was uncontested. I just need to know if the papers were turned in.

Are you a party to the divorce? If so, you would have gotten a copy of the divorce decree which is the document that finalizes the divorce. If you want to check to see if the papers were even filed, you should call the court.

No, it is illegal for him to remarry whilst still legally married, even if there are different countries involved. His second marriage will not be recognized as legal in the states, and he may also be charged with bigamy. It probably won't be recognized as legal in the other country either, should the facts come out. That means if he wants to bring their new spouse into the country, there may well be a whole pile of problems to deal with. Far better to wait out the 6 months and do it properly.
