I don't think there is anything wrong with being there for people you care about, in fact, I find it endearing. The question is, what are you not doing in order to be there for them? Is this causing problems for you with your employer? I can understand how they may think that 3 days off is excessive, especially since the heart attack was mild and the patient is likely to be fine by now. You could be there for your fiance and the family after work, and still take care of your obligations to your employer and your own home life. I hope your 2nd father is well on his way to recovery. God Bless you all!

You to be farther in law had a heart attack and you missed three days of work. Hope you work is understanding. Most of the time unless immediate family, which he is not, work does not feel you should be missing three days. You could have missed one day or part of a day and visited after or before work.
I hope you had called in to work and told them this before you took the days off. If you didn't call in to work then chance are you are going to be fired. Most employers required doctors note when you miss 3 or more days of work.
I hope he is fine and I hope you told work that you weren't coming in. If you didn't they most likely thought you quite
I am answering as an employer not with my heart but with a business type attitude.
Again I hope your soon to be farther in law is OK and glad you decided to be by her side. Work does not do business with a heart.

It's not wrong at all, it's very thoughtful of you to do so and definitely your fiance needs your support right now. Only odd thing though...a mild heart attack? One of my docs here at the hospital had a mild heart attack a few weeks ago and he himself was back to work after a few days. Seriously.

Not at all! Your family had an emergency, and you needed to be there for them. You can always make-up work, but having someone you love fall ill and not being there for them, the guilt may never go away. Don't be hard on yourself, you did the right thing. Hope that helps the ease your worry, and I hope you father in-law (to be) gets well. God Bless. :D

She is your fiance and you care about the welfare of her family. There is nothing wrong with being there for she and her family. If anyone is giving you crap about ignore them! If it starts interfering with your ability to make a living for yourself and soon to be wife you may need to pull back a little. You should be there for your fiance financially and emotionally. I wish you the best of luck in the marriage and strength to the family as they go through this difficult time.

Of course it's not wrong...you can always get another job if need be, you can't replace people. However, I would talk to your human resource department about a short term leave if you're going to be out much longer. Good Luck! I hope he gets well soon.

No. I would be there for my husband in the event that my father-in-law would become very ill or even sick. Then I would request my 3 day paid time off days for it. If you are in deed close to him, he is like a father to you. If your job has PTO days request them stating your father is seriously ill and this is why you had to take off. They cannot deny you, your PTO days.

I`am sure he is being cared for by his doctor. There is nothing you can do physically that can`t be done by someone close to him. I think he would tell you himself to go to work. You could also mention this to him .Tell him you wish him well and will be thinking of him. If anything changes in his condition, you can be notified at work. Let some one know at work of your situation. good luck

a day or two would be fine to miss work. but if he's going to be ok then you should go back to work. you still have responsitilities and you wouldn't want to get fired or anything.
