Compliments are best when they are given specifically to one person, privately, not in a group session. Otherwise you just come across as a lascivious horn-dog.
Unless you are very secure with this group, and they are very secure with you, I would not suggest staring or showing obvious enjoyment. The others are not there for enjoyment, but for hygiene, so your display would be rude.

Staring at anyone is not polite, unless you have true feelings for the persona and love them. So, don't stare. yeah since you are gay you will sneak some good peeks. That is human nature. Enjoy the scenery and the fantasies that the showers are sure to provide.
Making comments about anothers body would be acceptable, as long as you kept ti to maybe the abs, chest arms. Don't go into the personal areas. If you make the inital compliments and the conversation naturally takes you father, then go for it. However, don't push your luck. Anyone of them may not tolerate gays, and could cause you further problems.
Just behave yourself

I have been in many showers with many stiraght guys (military, school, teams etc.) other than the ocassional really 'blessed' guy you notice to me it is just showering. You are not there to be shopping and my mind simply doesn't really think of it that way. Besides that the people I am showering with are usually friends and that to me is a turn-off.
And come on - EVERYONE compliments the BIG GUY on campus when you find out who it is....and he never minds!

A quick glance maybe, but staring at anyone for any reason is quite rude. As for who it is hurting, well the starer may find a fist in his/her face, also it give credence to the enemies of gays that they just think of one thing. Why give them ammo. As for compliments, not in a shower, perhaps in a more socially condusive setting.

I wouldn't stare! It's probably not safe, especially if they are all on the football team. I am gay and I think that it isn't right. That's my opinion.

No. Staring is rude. Period. "What it hurts" is that it intentionally makes someone else uncomfortable and disrespects their rights to not be treated like an object.

well i guess that would depend on the guys showering , i wouldnt stare anyhows for fear of bodily harm hehe
