I have a lot of pet peaves that have come out since that day. That's just one of them. "Nine-one-one" is a phone number, as a date it would be September 1, 2001, nothing happened on that day. It happened on the ELEVENTH (11TH) so why do people say "one-one"?
I also have a problem when people call it the "attack on New York." There was no attack on New York, there was an attack on America, in which ONE of the targets was IN New York. You say "The attack on New York" and you totally ignore the people who died in Pennsylvania and the Pentagon.
I heard someon on TV once refer to it as an "incident." I guess my definition of "incident" and his are different, because I believe the root word is incidental, meaning minor. Just a little thing.

Anyway, those are some of my pet peaves, I was just wondering if you had the same pet peaves or if i'm just crazy?

Don't you think we owe it to the memory of the people who died and to their families and loved ones to get it right? I mean if we say "attack on New York" doesn't that leave out those who were killed in Pennsylvania and the Pentagon? Isn't that like pi$$*** on their grave?

I agree with you all on three counts, but there's no need to go crazy about it. People will be idiots now and forever, and there's nothing we can really do about it.

I can agree with you that nine-one-one is a phone number while nine-eleven is a significant date. And I can agree that it was an attack on America itself.

But in a world where 40% of the population cannot even recall what YEAR the 9/11 attacks occurred, Id have to say you're crazy for allowing this to bother you that much. Americans are self-absorbed jerkoffs (yes, I am one too) - why let it bother you?

those paticulicar things don't bother me. what bothers me is when people (like you) pick at how others choose to use the english language. I have never heard anyone refer to 9, 11 as 9, 1, 1. but that is beside the point. if you understand what someone means, it shouldn't matter how they phrase it! you know that when people refer to 'the attack on new york' they are not purposly ignoring the other victums... so let it go. you are too anal.

9 is stated "niner" so it doesnt get perplexed with yet another be conscious. because there rather is not any emphasis on the top of the be conscious, that's lost on the radio if the reception isnt appropriate. additionally they say "tree" in decision to 3, and "fife" in decision to 5 for the comparable reason.

I think you are just that...crazy. You have too much time on your hands (or on your mind) and you should put your efforts into something that is actually productive like maybe volunteering somewhere instead of being irritated by things you have no control over.

Why not call it for what it is, rather than trying to hide it behind a number?
