About 650
When one looks around Industry in general and even some parts of the public service (eg Firemen) there are a considerable number of people being asked to achieve the same task with less manpower.
In Industry "Lean manufacturing" is one of the latest euphemisms for "do the same with less people". If we all have do it, why can't MPs especially with the nice new offices and support staff they now have.
I suggest a UKIP policy to halve the number of MP's in the House of Commons by combining existing seats.
Now that one would really put the cat amongst the pigeons!
It would also mean they could all sit down when they they turn up for the budget speech
They try to justify their existence by improving our (THEIR) lives

To Jesi- this question is obviously regarding Britain because America doesn't have 'Members of Parliament'.
MP's represent their constituents (ie the people who live in the constituency/area where their political party has been voted in) in the House of Commons, and make sure that any laws passed are to the best interest of their people. I can't remember how many there are- sorry.

MPs, Military police, usually work for the civilian police forces after they get out of the Military then they are called Cops
Bureau of Labor statistics can tell you how many Cops are still around.
Hope this helps
