Your question assumes there's only one advantage, when there are many.

Besides being able to express yourself better, and impressing others, it enables you to read broadly and understand more of what you read, and to understand more of what people say.

Having a big vocabulary allows you to make finer distinctions in your thinking.

Also, mastering the vocabularies of fields of study is part of understanding those fields, allowing you to think better and more productively about the aspects of the world those fields address.

So, you read better, listen better, think better, and communicate better. How cool is that?

A person with a wider vocabulary will at least appear to be more intelligent than someone who does not. For example, I knew a person that defined everything as either "lame" or "cool". After listening to her refer to something as "lame" 27 times in a conversation and other things as "cool" 22 times in the same conversation, I began to realize she sounded like an utter, and complete fool.
Another advantage to having a wide vocabulary is that language is an instrument, and the more words you know, the more accurately you can describe a thing, a person, or an event.

A good vocabulary will just make u more effective in your communication...you'll be able to say the same thing in fewer words...
But it may have its disadvantages too...if the person you are communicating with does not have a similar level of vocabulary as yours, he/she might not understand what you are saying.
so use your knowledge of words as wisely as possible.

I gave you one answer; that's all I'm going to give. You need to learn this stuff, instead of being lazy and asking someone else to do your homework. Down the road someday, nobody is going to want to hire somebody who can't speak her own language, and these are VERY common words.
