Israel was not at war with the country of Lebanon. They were at war with an armed faction inside of Lebanon called Hezbollah. Their actions were acceptable on both occasions however. An act of war was committed in both cases against the people of Israel. They were justified in doing what they did, and should have done more and not caved to external pressure.

It's acceptable. Both Hezbollah and the Palestinians went onto Israeli soil and killed and kidnapped their soldiers and had Israel not responded it would have happened again and again. While you could say the response was excessive and many innocent lives were lost, on all sides, I don't think there will be any further kidnappings. Hezbollah now know that firing rockets from civilian areas no longer gives them protection. The other result for Israel was that Hezbollah have been pushed back and the UN and Lebanese forces will keep them out of the border area. The Lebanese government is now able to take control of their sovereign territory without upsetting Syria and Iran. Both these countries have also seen the example set and might appreciate more that if you fund and support terrorism it may come back to haunt you. As I say, the loss of innocent life, on both sides, was and is tragic but it may quicken the peace process without which, many, many thousands would surely die.

It was and is totally inhumane what they are doing.
Israel is like " the bully of the playground " in the Middle East.
They feel they can do whatever they want ,and the" West" will not intervene as they are the only "non-Arab" country in that area and have close political links to the United states.
It is a bit suspect that the US is their biggest Ally and they do not have enough troops to carry on their "war on terror" then this happens!
Israel have more weaponry than NATO most of which was supplied by the US.
If a country like Lebanon or another "Arab" state amassed that much weaponry and carried out similar attacks on Israel there would be an all out war.
I feel todays political climate has affected peoples judgement on this conflict.......we have to look at the average person in these countries..... they are the ones that are being punished and displaced, WHAT DID THEY DO TO DESERVE THIS, AND WILL YOU BE NEXT ON THE LIST!

Yes.

Armed forces from Lebanon attacked Israel. Israel attacked back at those forces, because the Lebanese government refused to stop the attacks.

And holding onto territory captured during a war, especially a war that the other side started, is common practice throughout history.

If one side starts a war, they should be prepared to deal with whatever consequences arise as a result of their action. Hezbollah, Lebanon and Palestine all attacked Israel. Israel attacked back. That's the nature of war.

YES it is acceptable. Is it not time we all got together and sorted out these Muslims, or Western Oriental Gentlemen. These Muslims have made the world a dangerous place, also an expensive place. Of course because of oil, everyone tiptoes around them. When did you last hear a Muslim speak out against all the bombings the Muslim terrorists carryout often killing their own kind. We should bomb those poppy fields in Afganistan, which funds their terrorists and sort out Pakistan where the terrorists are trained.

This is an unspoken tragedy. The treatment of the peoples of Gaza, by the eternal victims is an absolute disgrace. I am ashamed to be part of a developed world that watches this is silence. I hope people here will remember this is exactly what happened to the Jews 1939-1945. It was too late by the time people woke up. Shame on Bush and Israel.

Let me pose a question for you:

Let's say you have a neighbor. Not a particularly friendly neighbor, but you don't really have a problem with him or his family - you've chosen to live and let live.

Next, let's say your neighbor invites a guest into his house ... his brother-in-law. This brother-in-law doesn't like you ... not at all. He's always shouting hateful things across the fence at you and your family. He defames you to the rest of your neighborhood. He threatens your wife and your children verbally all the time, and declares that your family has no right to exist - that your very lives are worthless and it is his mission in life to see them ended.

This goes on for years. You ask your neighbor to get rid of this monster of a houseguest, but he explains that he is *family* ... that he must honor his familial obligations and be a good host to this man. You are fed up, but still you do nothing about the unwanted houseguest - all in the name of being a good neighbor.

One day, the neighbor's houseguest crosses the fence, breaks into your house and kidnaps two of your sons. Then he retreats to your neighbor's house and starts throwing hand grenades over the fence at you and your wife and the rest of your children.

You appeal to your neighbor again: "Stop your guest from attacking my family - make him return my children. Make him leave your house and our neighborhood!" Your neighbor responds that he cannot control his houseguest and is not responsible for his actions. Furthermore, he has been buying presents for your neighbor's children, and they now see him as a benevolent uncle who loves them and takes care of them.

Now, the question: What, my friend, do you do about this problem?

NO!!! I I don't understand how could world just look as Israel wipes out Lebanon and do nothing. Plus. look at the death rate ; 160 or so were killed in Israel and more than 1000 of people from Lebanon( but only 13 or so were actually members of Hezbollah). They killed thousand of innocent people and that's more than unacceptable. If it was the other way round (1000 Jews killed) I think Lebanon wouldn't exist now.

Personally it was an unwarranted response for a fake reason. 2 Israelis soldiers captured so they start a war, actually the 2 Israeli soldiers were taken in response to the kidnap of Hezbollah politicians the day before. The Israelis took members of an elected foreign government hostagein a hostile raid using commandos, what would your response be if they took British MPs hostage and then started a war on us because we captured 2 soldiers in response.

It is an attack on people the current Israeli govt think are subhuman, Arabs born in Israel are treated as second class citizens in all almost all areas, even for the amount of water they get per person compared to non-Arab Israeli's. The govt is fascist by definition, democratic or not.

The attacks on Lebanon were not attacks on Hezbollah as can be seen by their total failure to even dent Hezbollah, they were attacks on Lebanons infrastructure designed to destroy any hopes the country has of becoming a working nation again. The targets were chosen to prevent Education, Healthcare and Utilities being used and therefore making the area a "no-go" zone, creating another ruined buffer state for the Israelis to oppress.

Please note i don't refer to Jewish religion when talking of Israeli govt politics. The Israeli govt and the Jewish religion whilst closely linked are seperate entities and i have no wish to cause anti-semitic feeling by mixing them. I have nothing against Jewish or non-Jewish Israelis who don't support the Israeli curent foreign policy position. Those who do, I dislike as much as any person who does regardless of religion or race.
