I think it's illegal or very difficult to get one and would cost you thousands of pounds if you can. Primates as pets are a bad idea anyway, they can be very agressive and need specialist care which most people don't realise.

You could adopt one from the zoo.

I would not recommend a monkey as a pet. They are a wild animal and not domesticated in any way. They can be taught to be a little better behaved but they are very difficult animals. They are the equivilent to a 2 year old that you wont be able to find a baby sitter for. They are extremely messy (think about all that poo flung onto the walls) I tried to convince a friend of mine to NOT get a monkey. He did all the research and found a dealer, paid $5000 for this baby spider monkey, and got rid of her within a year. He said he had no idea just how much work they actually are. You almost have to be at home all the time...forget vacations. IF YOU ARE DEAD SET ON GETTING A MONKEY...talk to your local zoo. They should be able to give you contact info for people who can better educate you on owning a monkey and what all is included in that. You will want to talk to your government division that deals with exotic permits ect. They will know who is a reputable person that deals with them. They can carry Hepatitis and cannot be fully trained not to bite. I really suggest finding a group that deals with rescues and help them out for bit. Again just to make sure you really know what you are getting into with owning a monkey.

Monkeys make terrible pets. If you really want to keep one, keep two for company. You are not enough company for a monkey. They're like children but more destructive because small children can't run up your curtains.
You can't house train them. They destroy anything that catches their interest. You need permission from your local council and an exotic pets license, and a vet that specialises in exotics. If you can't afford to heat your home to 22 degrees all year round, or eat fresh fruit and veg 5 times a day you can't afford one.
They'll also need a large outside run and play equipment so they don't get menagerie disease. They must get fresh air and sunshine as well as exercise.
The species is called a Capuchin monkey. I suggest you go somewhere like Twycross Zoo and spend a few hours watching them so see what bullies they can be.

it's illegal. plus, having a monkey will destroy your home. cute as they are, they cause a lot of trouble and make a huge mess. you will constantly be cleaning up after them and changing their diaper - it is difficult to potty train a monkey, so i've heard. also the monkey will probably suffer emotional damage because he needs to be around monkeys like himself so that he can be a monkey!

the monkey on ace ventura was a trained monkey, handled by professionals who have the space, time, and money to work with the monkey. they also most likely have other monkeys that the monkey in the movie can be social with.

You can buy a monkey in the UK, but you must have a licence and have the facilities to house it, which also requires inspections on a regular basis

Private owning on a monkey is difficult, you have to have clearance from the council as it would be classed as a dangerous animal, and most monkeys are protected species, so I suspect that you could only get a captive bred one, and they are few and far between.
