if it werent for him, padme would not have been protected by jedis in 'attack of the clones' and would have died by jangos hired killer at the beginning. also he set up anakin and padme on a date which was very kind, i would love to go on a date with her.
he told anakin to kill dooku so dooku can no longer do more evil.
its only when the jedis started to take over in episode 3 the emperor had no choice but to turn against them and defend himself.
he was always encouraging anakin which was nice unlike windu who did the opposite.

The guy manipulated everyone. By the time Episode 3 came out, he had killed more people than any 1 Jedi, 'cause he started the war, and in all respects, was leading both sides against each other. Palatine was a G when it came to mind games, George W. Bush ain't got shiznit on him.

NO, emperor Palpatine was not a nice person. He manipulated people and events. He kept his true motives secret, even in the things that you see as "nice" things - he had another agenda - His own power and glory.

He ordered the death of all Jedi, and had a plan in place, awaiting his word to execute it. "nice" people don't plan mass murders like this, far in advance - just waiting until he had other circumstances under his control.

More could be said - but suffice it to say :: Palpatine was not a "nice" person.

Darth Vader? Is that you?

Dude, he encouraged Anakin because he KNEW he was super-powerful and would help him forcibly take over the galaxy.
He had Dooku killed because Anakin would be much more powerful.
Whats the matter with you?!?

Palpatine was not a good person at all.Every "good"thing that he did all fit into his evil plan.Padme would not have needed a guard if Palpatine had not had his apprentice Count Dooku hire Jango Fett to murder her. There is one thing that Palpatine said that was true. The Jedi were trying to assasinate him...Because he was so evil!!

If we remember Return of the Jedi, and we all should, then the asker is correct "from a certain point of view." The answerers should realize that a lot of things we come to believe come about because of a certain point of view. I do not agree with the asker, however, he seems to believe he is correct and has gone so far as to justify it. It is no different to what Luke was led to believe.
