One suggestion that can be made is to send letters to different publishing houses about a proposed book idea. You would need to provide some sample material and a rough draft at least of how the book would flow. But this is the traditional way of publication without the material being written. It does work though.

Do you have any experience writing? Publishing has become expensive and most houses want something to indicate that their money is well spent.

If you have no background as a writer, no publishing credits it is harder to get a house to sign a contract, period. Most houses will want you to write the book first and send it to them. An exception to this is when you have a topic that is so interesting/timely and you have some special spin on it or access to knowledge that others don't.

If you want to write a book, you will need to send an inquiry letter to a publisher (you can look up book publishers in Writer's Market at the library if you can't afford a copy) who prints the types of books you want to write. You will need to give them a) the point of the book, b) an outline of what would be in the book, c) why you are the only/best one who could write it. Include an SASE(self-addressed, stamped envelope) for them to reply to you.

Do not, if possible, go to a vanity press or any company that wants you to pay to have the book published.

Probably you will have to write the book first and then find a publisher, but you'll never know until you try.

However, you will definitely need to make sure your letter is professional (and that all the grammar, spelling and punctuation is correct). Give them the respect they are due and put your best foot forward. Good luck.

You might want to try hitting the literary/book AGENTS first. If you can get one of them interested, with your brilliant query letter seeking representation, they can help you get whats needed together. Agents have the contacts/relationships with the publishing houses and anything coming via them is given a lot more attention than unsolicited material that shows up in the mail. If yr ideas are deemed strong enough (i.e. will make publishers money) they may front you something to write a book, but dont count on it. Still, if yr serious, you will write yr book anyway, right?

All the preceding questions to my reply are sound and offer solid advice. Yet, I'm puzzled. Everything about your avatar name to the way you formed your question and short narrative belies the fact that you're a writer having any substance.

If your question and declarative statements are any indication of your writing ability, I'd suggest that you take some creative writing courses and concentrate on English Composition.

I don't wish to appear harsh in my criticism of your expertise, but everyone has experiences they could write about.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I envision you at less than 18 years of age.

Added note: I owe a part apology referencing the asker's avatar and name. Wraith means an apparent likeness of a living being just before death as an apparition. I learned something new. "Wraith of God" is a play on words as well. Clever.
