Ok i get what the 2nd answer is saying but it all comes down to skin color, people call anyone whos skin is dark african american but not every black person is african american and then there are also WHITE AFRICAN AMERICANS, but since they are white their cultural background doesnt get looked at, people just assume that they were from europe. and since we are black people assume that we are from africa., when we could be from many places.

I call myself both. Actually I have a problem with black people whose parent(s) haven't grown up in America taking advantage of the term African American, such as Osama Barrack. He is a great Senator, but he is not African American. Neither of his parents were historical discriminated against in this country and he did not share our culture. He should be called Kenyan American.

I know alot of blacks who do not like being called African Americans. There are black people from many different parts of the earth-------not just Africa.

And, black is so much easier to say. So, if white is white, why can't black be black?

that's a good question. and why are American Indians called Native Americans? I think the majority of Americans can be called that. My daughter's relations (she a member of a coastal Indian Nation but is also part Blackfeet and caucasion) call themselves American Indians and to differentiate themselves from Eastern Indians, they call themselves 'Feather Indians' the others 'Dot Indians'. :) Who knows. People are too PC and it's like walking on eggshells at times on how to be polite to another. And I hate how on questionaires on what your race is, you are only supposed to check one. Like you are supposed to leave out the ancestry of one of your parents! I guess to be PC you would have to call my daughter Native American-European American. I'm just rambling on. When people start going the route of being PC, it seems to alienate everyone more and what we all really are in this country- is Americans.
