I have never really been to trendy, but i've decided I need to change. As i've just met a new babe, and feel it's about time I sort my terminal mid 90's fashion sense out.

I'm a 24year old man with an athletic/ stocy physique, and am 5feet 8 (172cm) could anybody advise me on what style of clothing to buy as i'm utterly shite at choosing clothes.

Thankyou in advance guys

Well it sounds like you have the body to carry any style off really..
depends on the place your going and the people your with on what you would wear.

I always find that stocky muscular guys look good in nice trendy Tight fitted shirt, with some dirty (as in colour not smell) denim jeans. this lookd great for the pubs etc as you have made an effort to be trendy, but have not gone over the top.

Best thing to do is lok through a few clothing catalouge and choose what styles you think look good on the bloes in there and then go shopping and see if they work on you.

p.s if your in london and need a shopping buddy, just yell out!
of course like all woman, we like shopping, even if its not for us!

On a whim, I'd say: a t-shirt (vintage, polo, whatever you like), a pair of fitted jeans (girls love the tight butt jeans) and some relaxed leans (not baggy!). All this should match up with a good pair of tennis shoes.

Hint: Next time you're bored and have nothing else to do, walk through a store (or mall) and see what you may/may not like.

check out some fashion mags or music (hip hop mags) always have so many clothing ads you could get a good sense of what's out there
or go to the mall & just look around (window shop) & ask one of the sales people to help you.
doesn't sound like you will have much problem since you're already in shape
i agree with the others - no tight pants, but i don't want to see all of your boxers either
don't wear your shirts unbuttoned, unless you have one of those sexy tank tops underneath it

jus take your time ( a whole day tomorrow!) & go in stores, try stuff on, experiment with your own style & color coordinate your Nike or casual shoes/shirts w/ a nice pair of jeans & a belt - a lil bling doesn't hurt if that's what your into too.

have fun

Do's - Nice tailored dark suit.
semi-tight jeans
black or white under shirt
nice shoes (clean, no holes)
cowboy boots

Don'ts - silk dress shirt
flower pattern shirts
sport jersey's (unless you are at the game or watching it)
no cuffed pants

Keep a clean haircut, even if its long keep it clean and nice smelling. Some guys look great with facial hair, even a five o clock shadow. BUT REMEMBER, confidence is the key. :)

a suit that fits really well or as the others have said - jeans that are not too baggy or tight and a good quality t shirt/ shirt. Pay attention to the colour of the shirt and find out which colours make you look good.

Smart yet casual like jeans and a nice close fitting t shirt for days and you can't go wrong with a suit you will knock her socks of.... don't forget to smell good too.

A nice pair of comfortable slacks with casual shoes (NOT tennis shoes) and a button down in a flattering color for you, untucked. This is the HOTTEST outfit on men EVER.

you cant go wrong with a casual (ironed) shirt and a classic pair of levi jeans, i also liked jumpers with a nice white shirt underneath, casual shoes(polished) and hae your hair in a just got out of bed look, if you have any.
hope you and your new gf enjoy your new look, go to a department store and ask for some advice, they will be happy to help!
