How many people think the upside of this war is that it is culling off all the brainwashed, high school underachieving rednecks that are willing to die for a war to secure oil and reconstruction contracts for a drunk cokehead president who AWOl'd his own Air Reserve duties. Isn't it great that a limitless supply of "conservative" dimwits are preventing a draft?
I love that these red staters are running off for a useless suicide mission (thanks for the <$3 gas!). That leaves the smart ones, the ones not fooled! Darwinism at its greatest.

For $ money, for college? That trumps your life and limbs and your virtues? Fighting an unjust war for neocon cronies making billions off the suffering of millions? Again, stupis people. Go get a college loan. An exorbitant interest rate is better than the other option.

Well you make a good argument. However for every person I think is being dissuaded, I see a response of "Hey, we're kicking some Iraqi as*, and the economy is good and we all gots jobs" so sometimes I think they are capable of spontaneously reproducing.

You're the first person I've run into that actually has a lower opinion of all the folks who support the Repugnant Party and their war than I do. Nonetheless, your diatribe is excessive and distracts from what is really a clever question.

As to your question, there is no practical or long-term upside to this war. This war will only make the US more unsafe as time passes and more youth in Afghanistan, Iraq, and the Middle East heed the call to jihad. This war will bleed the American economy and burden the next several generations of Americans with debt to foreign countries...because our president is borrowing money like mad to pay for this war. This war will not reduce the US' dependence on foreign oil nor wake it up to energy alternatives here at home. This war will ultimately wear down the both the government and the people, such that in another five or ten years, the US will no longer be a superpower.

If there is an upside possible, it would be this: the American people, traumatized by the events of 9/11, need to feel safe and that the government is doing what it can to protect them. In the immediate short-term, this war might actually accomplish this for at least a segment of the population. However, as the war worsens, even this small positive will wither and fade. And, then we'll all have to face the long-term consequences, even as the people who caused this mess have retired to spend the rest of their lives in the idyllic bliss of the country club and the golf course.

Your argument is flawed at best and morbid at worst.

Many of the people serving in the armed forces are prime shape, and are only serving to gain college tuition so they can better themselves. We're losing our best to the war, not our worst. In addition, many veterans will not be killed, but will come back maimed, putting a strain on their families and on society as a whole for decades to come. Also, this is far from a suicide mission. The vast majority of American soldiers will return without any lasting physical damage from their tour of duty. Volunteers come from all states, not just republican states.

Even though I didn't want to have anything to do with your uneducated, badly misspelled rant, I decided that as someone who would probably be labeled a liberal that I had to.

You're view is definitely in the minority and rightly so. I doubt that you would have the actual bravery to spew this garbage publicly instead of hiding on Yahoo behind an avatar. You're kind give real "liberal peace-niks" a seriously bad name.

I think it is great.

Especially in Alabama where my Grandmother was from. All the stories she told me about that place makes me want the Army recruiters to work overtime rounding up Rednecks for cannon fodder.

You are absolutley right, to much redneck trailer park trash believing anything that our government tells us must be true. Doesn't the Bush family own shares in a defence contract companies that manufacture military weapons as well as oil companies, so as long as there is a war the Bush's are rolling in it.

I think the upside of this war is that the liberals and cowards are exposed for the wusses they are. Hey - Darwin - move to Canada where Liberals are wanted. Oops - Canada threw out their Liberal leader. Ok, try frwance. You'll fit right in there.
