There is no site specific way of losing fat... the old myth about working your abs to burn belly fat isn't true. To get rid of love handles, you need to lose overall fat. That happens with exercise and watching your diet. More on that below.
The most effective way to lose fat is aerobic exercise in the "moderate" fat-burning range, ideally first thing in the morning before you eat. When you wake your body is ready to burn fat and your levels of growth hormone are highest at that time. Later in the day it can take up to 30 minutes just to put your body into a fat-burning mode.
Another overlooked way to burn fat is by lifting weights. Skeletal muscle has very high caloric needs... almost twice that of adipose (fat) tissue. Put on a little muscle and you will burn calories all day even at rest. Be aware that skeletal muscle weighs more, so with this approach you may see your weight increasing while your body fat is melting away. Not realizing this often stresses folks who think they should be losing weight as a measure of fitness. Forget the scale, look in the mirror and you will be happy.
For diet, keep a diary for a couple of weeks counting calories, grams of protein, and grams of fat intake. It is easy with online sources of nutritional information (type the name of the food and calories into the Google search engine) and packaging labels. That will let you quickly figure out where the fat is coming from in your diet.
Fat gives you 9 calories per gram. So take the number of grams of fat, multiply by 9, then calculate what percentage the fat calories are of your total daily calories. Restricting the calories from fat to about 20% of your total intake is ideal for a maintenance diet... that isn't overly restrictive. Of note, you need some fat in your diet. For instance, the body uses fat to produce hormones. Once you have a picture of how to modify your diet, you can drop the diary and just go back to it occasionally if you are wanting to tweek things further.
There is a subset of questions that goes further and asks about "How to get a six-pack?" The answer is the same. Six-packs are 20% abdominal exercise and 80% diet. There is one caveat... abdominal muscles will form in the position that you exercise them, so be certain to pull them tightly toward your spine while doing crunches, etc. Also, during most lifting, the "core is active" which means that you should be stabilizing with contracted abs then too. Fail to do this and the abs will form, but bulging outward and the result is not attractive.
If you are trying to build muscle as a way to lose fat, then you may need to increase total calories and specifically your protein intake. I target about 0.8 g of protein per pound of body weight each day when actively building. That is far more protein than most people need in their diets.
Hope this is helpful to someone.

IT IS EVIL! I too have this problem, and my job does not help. I sit the majority of my day. The only thing you can do is work out, work out, work out. This along with a goo diet, lower in bad carbs, high in foods that help your body metabolize at a more efficient rate. Sauna belts help your body sweat out water weight, but the real issue is that you need to allow your body to WANT to remove the excess fat, and this can only be done by burning more calories then you take in, allowing your body to use that fat for energy. What worked for me, and i have to get back on it, was a week of Salmon and brocolli. No salt. I ate this for breakfast, lunch and dinner. In between I would eat some whole grain toast, fruit, and drink water (I drank more than 8 glasses). I lost 10 pounds, and it was around my waist. Once you achieve this, you have to maintain this, work out, eat sensible, and try to avoid eating after 6. GOOD LUCK.

Hate to break it to you, put seriously, eating a healthier diet and exercise is the only thing that will make it go away quickly. Apparently, the most effective way to get rid of belly fat is to do cardio, sit-up/stomach toning exercises are more secondary for muscle defintion. So go put on your jogging shoes!
As for food, lots and lots of fruits and veggies and stay away from over-processed and sugary foods.

well that is a hard question to answer if you want to do it the lazy way. You have to eat right and exercise to get the results yo want. Being lazy is probably how you got the extra fat there in the first place. Your best best it to exercise anyway. If it is that big of a deal to you then it wont be that big of a deal to work out.

RUN RUN RUN! Crunches will not help until you have burned most of the fat. I would recommend at least 30 minutes 4 days a week on the tredmill..start on a speed of 6.0. Or run outside where there are alot of hills.

Yes! South beach diet! you lose belly fat first. it's great. but remember as for any diets and losing weight..you have to be consistent with a work out regiment. Eat healthy too. Foods like white rice, white bread, potatoes, sweets, soda ...are bad they do put a belly on you. try eating whole wheat breads and cereal with at least 4 to 5 grms of fiber. Vegetables, nuts are great too.

You need to do cardiovascular exercise. Do at least 20 minutes per day after you start sweating from it.
Also, don't eat after 4:00 pm.
Do lots of crunches every day.
