Depends on where you live. Obviously some places (like NY and LA) you can make any business work, but other places (like in a small-town in OK or OH) chances of finding clients can be rough --unless you plan on traveling.

Do some collective research in a 50 mile radius and see if you can garnish any interests. Start signing up clients and see how far you can take it.

That's what I did for my business. I started a small IT frim (dealing with web development, print media, networking and Consultancy work) and even though I am in NYC the competetion is great, but I have been finding work constantly so I keep at it.

BTW, in case you're interested, my IT firm name is Imajin Arts (http://www.imajinarts.com)

We have 3 murals in the house painted by 1 person.
I assume you have talent and are dependable.

My wife saw some of his work in an art show. The person had done mural in a house that was a part of a art tour so she was able to see his work in a house and talk with the client.

I think you have to have done something like this and are able to refer someone to that location where they can see it, or maybe your place will serve.

Also I suspect you must be in or near an affluent area or forget it.

I don't know what the person makes (whether it's enough for a living or not). From what I've seen it is very hard for a good artist to make a living at these kinds of things. It maybe the same for great ones I'm sure that true in a lot of cases.

Good luck

With all the houses being bought in the past months, there is surely a market for your business plan. The major obstacle you will have to deal with is which market you want to target your services to. You want to be specific when deciding which target market you select. You can have many target markets, but must remember that each will require a different marketing strategy. Another good way to get your name out there is to host a website with previous work you have complete.

I think that is awesome. I would definitely target high end home builders and home owners. I think with this type of business word of mouth and marketing, will be key. For example, maybe doing a free/discounted mural in exchange for having the homeowner keep your fl yer in the hall way or posting a sign in their yard. For more details to help you start:

I think this is a wonderful idea. Make sure you get in touch and create relationships with contractors who can refer you to interested clients. Make sure you keep a portfolio and client referral list to give to propects that are interested. Put your ad in the local real estate mags and get to know the interior designers in your area.
