Centrino refers to the size of the chip. This line of chip is meant for notebook applications. In fact, you can get a Centrino Core Duo. Its a dual core processor made for notebooks.

centrino refers to the wireless.
core duo is a dual processor on a single chip.
Different technologies. Apples and oranges.
By the way, my laptop is a Centrino core duo.
Update; for the AMD comment, duo is kicking AMD's butt right now.

Centrino isn't a processor, it's Intel's version of wireless capabilities.

intel core duo is by far the superior processor, due to its dual core properties, making multi-tasking much easier, although i would recommend at least 1gb(2gb if possible) ram to aid in the running of the core duo
users found out quick that you need as much ram as you can to run dual core processors,as these chips need extra ram to run their extra processing
