you have to click on the start button > programs > accessories > system tools > and run scandisk first to get all of the errors off of the drive before you can defrag it.

run scandisk in the "thorough" mode and have it fix all errors automatically.

on a very large hard drive like we have nowadays it might take more than 24 hours to run scandisk all the way through.

close as many windows as possible and do not use your computer for anything else while scandisk is running.

If your hard drive is over 80% full it will not defrag. The defrag program needs memory to work. If you can erase or free up your disk space it should work. To check Memory go to my computer and check drive "C"

What do you mean? Is there no option for it, or it won't do it once you click the button? Try running Disk Cleanup first... then reboot, and then try to defrag it. Make sure you kill any programs running that need not be running... check your tray.
