Computer processors slows down due to wear and tear over years. If your computer is an extremely old one (5 yrs or more) it's time to get a new computer.

On the other hand, the following is a simple guide you can follow:

1. Install anti-spyware programs like "SpyDoctor" and "Ad-Aware"
*These files are availiable as freeware from www.download.com. Go to this website and search for it using the exact terms

2. Once installed update it and do a sweep on your computer for spyware. Delete the spyware (if any)

3. Download & install a program called CCleaner (also from www.download.com) This program is a gem! Not many people know about this yet! What this program does is to do a scan on your computer outdated registry, values, logs, internet cookies, temp files etc. (all these are useless to you and hog valuale computer resources)

4. Once installed do a scan (will take some time). If you are using this program for the first time, it will actually turn out about at least 500mb worth of useless data!

5. Delete ALL these files. You do not need them. Most of these files are left over files from program installation, or value pointers that were directing to files or programs that you deleted or uninstalled long time ago.

6. After all these is done, reboot your computer and do a defrag.

All these should improve the speed of your computer.

*NOTE: If you are using programs like Kazaa, Limewire etc. it is recommend that you stop using them. They hog resources, and install plenty of spyware on your computer.

Don't reinstall windows. I have no idea WHAT that guy is thinking, other than just being a jackarse...

Start with your msconfig setup. Go to start menu, run, type in msconfig. Click on the startup tab

Most of the junk in there is what is slowing your system down. Go to this website: http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php

Reference any program in the startup list against that site. Turn off what you don't need. You will have to restart after that.

Also, revert your system to "classic" mode if it is in windows xp configuration. It doesn't look as pretty but will increase your speed 10 fold.

Get rid of screen savers, they are not required with today's more modern power-saving modes.

Make your desktop plain. No pictures, nothing fancy. It eats up a lot of resources.

Finally, if it's still slow, invest in a RAM upgrade.

Run Spybot Search and Destroy. My bet is you have at least 10 spyware programs running. You can do a google search. If you have less than 512 meg of Ram, get more. That should do the trick. When did you last defrag?
