It is supposed to have its own smell, vaginas are not supposed to smell of fruit or flowers :)
If you bathe regularly you should have no problems...do not have too many bubble baths or use strong soaps or shower gels there cause it can alter the vagina's pH, making you more prone to infections. Douching is also not advisable.
However if you have noticed a change in the discharge, itching, redness, or a different smell, especially if its "fishy", its wise to check out with a gynae. Fungal and bacterial infections can alter the smell, as can certain sexually-transmitted diseases.

If it's an unusually bad odor or you have a strange looking discharge that's not normal to you, you could have an infection. If you mean the normal odor of a vagina, it's probably because when your vagina cleans itself, it's getting rid of dirt, bacteria, and other impurities (hence, your normal discharge that all women have). Bacteria isn't exactly a great thing, and this is why it's good to get rid of it. :) You also have a certain amount of yeast that's present in your vagina all the time (this is normal) and if you have a yeast infection (overgrowth of yeast) this can have an odor, too.
And whatever anyone tells you, it is NOT NOT NOT OK to use a douche. When you have your regular discharge, this is your body's way to cleaning your vagina. When you douche, you're just taking water and shoving all the bacteria, germs and dirt right back up there, which defeats the whole purpose.

Vaginas normally smell good as long as you keep it clean. The longer you take to get a bath or shower the more pungent the odour will be. My suggestion, take 2 baths/showers per day and you should be OK.

The vagina has fluids that help flush it, but taking showers and washing with mild soap and warm water will help.
Bad bathing practices, the use of douches, and infections can create a foul odor.
