I thought I should add my opinion as an American. These are ONLY my views.

We are mostly hard working people who are very happy and comfortable. Some are lazy and take advantage of others here, but that is few.

Mostly we are very moral and wish good on ALL other people regardless of religion etc. We often see the poor in other countries and wish we could help. However we don't know how to help. Our government does not share the goals of the common people and presents and ugly face to the world. The government uses our desire to help (and very corrupt media) to convince us to agree to invade countries to "help them become more like us" (comfortable, not opressed, not in fear of terrorists, etc..) In actuality the government has the agenda to controle the oil, thus increasing their power over the world.

I just pray that the rest of the world can see that the average American does NOT agree with this and is very angry at our government. We dont know what to do now.

I am a proud Canadian and on a whole , you are great neighbours , with the exception of a couple of things. There is no denying your patriotism, no denying you have the firepower to wipe anyone from the map, no denying there are many great minds, inventions , I could go on. That is why I can sincerely say that as a whole, I like most Americans . I have a serious concern when it comes to guns, all I hear is the NRA argument about the right to bare arms. The sentence doesn't end there, the full sentence is the right to bare arms in a militia. I am sorry but i find the idea of someone saying they have the right to own a weapon in this day and age. If you want one, register it, like a car. Learn how to use and store it but to have one just for the sake of having one , is wrong. I feel that attitude towards guns, reflect in all your foreign policy. Is Switzerland less respected as a nation because they remain neutral, or a nation that refuses to develop nuclear weapons? You are a great people and a great country but you have a lot of domestic problems that need and demand immediate attention. Let the rest of the World take care of Iran and Iraq. Use a months' budget from your military, along with every engineer in the country and rebuild the levees in New Orleans. If another Katrina hit this year, think of how bad that would be. Take 30% of the military budget and provide healthcare to every citizen, free of charge. Where are the great statesman and minds you all are so proud of. I won't Bush bash, we voted Cretein in 4 times. Get a leader like a Colin Powell who knows firsthand, the costs of war. Nothing would say to the world that the U.S. is to feared, respected. At least a guy like him has earned respect. Broke my heart to see him squirm when he had to defend the U.S. Intelligence in front of the U.N. over Iraq. But as a soldier, did what his Commander -in-Chief told him to do and resigned as quickly as he could thereafter. You are great neighbours, our greatest trading partners and have had some questionable calls the last few years in some trying times. And as a good neighbour, we are here to help as always and no, we don't need a bigger fence between us.

I was not born in America but now reside (quite happily I kight add) in the U.S. I have lived in different parts of the world....Africa, Europe...I am not an army brat just very curious of the world. I consider myself a global citizen rather than one tied to a particular nation...even the country of my birth.

I find Americans like everyone else...a mix of the good and the bad, the hard working and the lazy, the smart and the "oh-my-god-i-cant-believe-they-let-you-out" stupid ..(you get the picture). One thing I have noticed is that Americans in general are not curious about the world around them. Very few people ever travel oustide the country...people say it is expensive yet they buy $3,000 plasma screen TV's and vehicles suitable only for urban warfare..Most Europeans have travelled outside their country at the very least, to a/the neighbouring country...travel is good for perspective and as such, most Americans believe blindly what is presented in the media....never mind the spin to sell newspapers or improve ratings.....

My biggest gripe with the country is the lack of tolerance. There is a "if you are not with/like us you are/must be agst us" mentality that is prevalent in many...and I have lived all over the U.S. ....people. But then again, maybe I am too harsh since there is intolereance anywhere you go.

well even though i was not born in the USA i still consider my self an american, because this whold contenint is American, South America, North America, Central America, unfortunatley we are divided by borders, I love the USA , I was born in Mexico, most people view this country as home, because they have lived here many years, Even though racisim occures it is occures in every country i think that Americans are regular people, humans with their own feelings and judgement, I don't think being american makes you bigger and better, it is just a lable that society has created to recognize who is in power! America, is a land where people come with dreams, it is up to the individual to take advantage, there are things that are not right, its not a perfect land, but we all take things for granted, To all you americans that can vote, ...that is where you need to start and not blame other cultures and races.

i am not an american.... i am from the philippines and i think america has it's good and bad mentality. i love it here, life is easy as long as your a hard worker... on the other hand i see people taking advantage of this easy life, taking advantage of the government help cause they know they can depend to it, not all times but occasionaly. America is a fast growing country there are problems that only those who are interested to know will understand that there is something wrong(same as my country but less obvious here)..in general it is all good, too much to explain the cons and pros in america.

hello, I'm australian,
This is no offence to you, but... i'm dissapointed that so many americans want to see australias aussie icon , Steve Irwin die, Its so sickening...
Yes, Australians have asked about that aswell.. But it seems more americans are interested, What they don't understand was he was an entertainer, that doesn't mean that his death is here to entertain us, The mood in Australia is very somber here at the moment, Yesterday afternoon we also lost Peter Brock, to a racing accident, People need to respect the Irwins privact & actually listen when people say the tape is being destroyed, Becasue at this time, Australian's do know what were talking about.. =(
God bles xx
