Uniforms should not be banned! All middle schools and high schools should require uniforms because it will help eliminate many of the problems that occur due to what basically comes down to greed and jealousy. Kids will no longer be attacked over expensive sneakers and designer jackets if these items are not allowed in school. If all of the students are required to dress alike, then the students will have more time and attention to devote to things like STUDYING instead of what each other are wearing.

Also, uniforms teach kids how to dress appropriately. With uniforms, there are no sneakers or baggy jeans allowed. Boys are required to wear ties and tuck their shirts in. Girls must cover their navels and not have their boobs or butts hanging out of their clothes. There will be plenty of opportunity to dress however you want when you are grown, out of school, have a job, and can pay for your own clothes.

I think they should NOT be banned because they are a great idea.

The Khaki pants/skirt, and any kind of white or green or yellow shirt is NOT a uniform. It is a stricter dress code.
A UNIFORM is a source of group identity, pride and discipline--all good things. It is ONE look for ALL!
I was in the Navy for many years. I loved my uniform. It gave me great pride to wear it neatly and always looking good. Even lint on my lapel made me feel out of place. I found great pride in being the best I knew how to be--even in the tiniest detail.
If kids in school had to wear a UNIFORM like a pair of khaki pants that were all EXACTLY the same-and the EXACT same t-shirt, no earrings, or bracelets or doodads in their hair, every day--for months at a time, kids would eventually start listening to the sounds of the footsteps, the coughs, the laughter, and know who was who from the PERSON and not the clothes/gear.
The outside of a person would become less important than their contributions, their cooperation, their talents.
SCHOOL would become the focus of school, instead of who had the latest doodads, the baggiest pants, or the most expensive shoes. You would not be sent home for being out of uniform-but sent to the office to be put in an extra uniform.
Kids might get the idea that school is what they DO, not some horrible chore they are stuck with until they can get home to the video game, Cokes, and fuzzy slippers. They might have pride in their accomplishments instead of having the most junk, that is just like everyone else's who shops at Target.
Every morning there would be no argument about what to wear, forgetting a piece of it or failing to have one ready.
I could spend a lot of money on other fun things-like college- and traveling--because I didn't waste it on work clothes.
I had 5 sets of uniforms, and a dress uniform and 2 pairs of shoes, 2 hats, one purse.
The other clothes I wore were shorts, and tank tops. I had ONE dress-up dress! It was wonderful!
And these days, no one needs to dress to attract sexy attention-there is qute enough, already. Who wnats to invite a robbery for a cool jacket or $6 pencil. "Freedom of expression" and "suppressing a person's individulaity" are ridiculous notions, if they make a child a target for murder for wearing the wrong color.
Don't knock it, till you've tried it.

No I don't think they should be baned. How ever I do feel that they should only be allowed in private schools. Part of the joy of attending a public school is the diversity of people you meet there. Individuality needs to be expressed. The best and simplest way to do this is to allow different forms of dress. Dress codes are important because I don't want to see some of the clothes kids would wear without them but uniforms take it to far. They bind the individuality that we all work so hard to give our children.

I do not think it should. Sometimes it may cloak your identity which it will display more on your ability then economic status. I am currently at a college/university which has an interesting dress code. For general classes everyone wears a decent outfit like guys have to wear a shirt and tie and slacks. Jeans and short are not allowed. The ladies have to wear decent dress and provocative dress is not accepted. When you are in your core class, you wear the outfit that is acceptable in that profession which I feel is just since it helps you get accustom to the proper dress for that profession that you seek. I feel dress code are a good thing since it will help build your character and confidence in school.

I just wanted to answer the woman who wanted her daughter to be able to express her creativity or whatever the word she used. That's very clever from a mother! I'm only 26, but don't you think your daughter can express her "creativity" (usually that means bad taste - and I wear baggys, so don't think I wear strict clothes) on weekend and after school?

I don't think uniforms should be banned because it gives kids/teenagers the opportunity to NOT focus on clothes every single morning.

NO,,,and if anything,,more schools should have a dress code/ uniforms,,,,,,then no one would be considered the "cool" person because of their clothes,,,,would not offensive clothes being worn, no more gang stuff,,,,maybe the guys would wear clothes that covered their butt,,,,at school everyone would be able to concentrate on school stuff and not worry about some one else is wearing!

no they shouldn't.
school uniforms ensure uniformity among students and prevent MONEY from entering the equation.
For example, if ur a rich kid in a school, ud probabaly wear designer jeans. But a poor kid would have to wear normal shorts. He would be discriminated.
Uniforms seem bad to you, but they serve a much more important purpose than pleasing u

No. Mainly because while you are at school, people should be more focused on their studies and the learning process than standing out or excercising non-comformity. School is not the two headed monster that most people think it is and an education is more valuable than freedom of expression during school hours.

No, because with wearing uniforms you don't have to worry about being beaten up because of the wrong color or a certain gang logo on the clothes that you're wearing.
