I asked this question a week ago

I have a 97 ford taurus I am leaking oil. Not alot but enough when i park for awhile there is a stain under my car. My check engine light is on. That is all that I can tell is wrong with it. What is wrong with it and how much would it cost to fix?

When I left work today my car turned real slow like the battery was low on juice. The battery is only 1 year old. I stopped to work out then when i got back in the car it turned slow agian. It sounded like it wasnt going to start but then I pumped the gas and it started. When i stopped at home I got out and it smelled like burning oil or something like that coming from under my hood. What is going on I cant take my car in till next week. Is it safe to drive to work? Do I only have 1 or 2 more starts? Do I only have a few miles left I can drive? Please HELP!!!!

Park your car & catch the bus
The longer you drive it in the condition its in the more expensive the repair.
You dont have one problem , youve got several.
My crystal ball is out for repairs ,so I cant see whats wrong from here.

If it has been leaking oil and the oil light is on that means you are probley low on oil and need to add some. I would start by checking the oil level and if it needs it than add some. The hard starting could be from lack of oil and if you run long enough with low oil than the engine could sieze and you might as well get a new car because you will have to replace the engine. Get it in as soon as possible to have the leak checked. You could try till than to add some engine stop leak that you can buy at the parts store while you are getting oiland add that to see if the leak stops or slows down. Definately check the oil level ASAP so you dont riun the car driving it without oil in the system.

Once upon a time, I checked the fluids in the car before a 600 mile trip. At about the 500 mile marker, the car "died" on the interstate. I had driven it "dry" of oil. The motor had to be rebuilt. It was not a very good experience.

If you are unable to have the vehicle "checked", find another way to work until you can. Unless you want to completely ruin the "resale" value of it, it could be used to trade into a more reliable means of transportation.

Sounds like the leaking oil may have gotten to your starter motor, or else your starter motor is just going bad. This is the reason for the bad cranking if you have a pretty new battery (as you state). Before you have your starter replaced, check the valve covers for leaking oil. Try to tighten down the bolts that hold them in place, but don't try to be superman with the bolts.

considering the miles on the car,,its normal for it develope a small leakage of oil,,,as the car gets older,,seals/gaskets will get old and crack,,,its possible it may have a oil pan leaking(check the tightness with a socket wrench,do not over tighten),,,could be leaking where the engine and transmission conect(called a rear main seal),,also have you checked the oil level,,,if its very low,,,it will cause the engine to "cease up",another way to find the leak, would be to wash the engine (being very carefull around all the electrical stuff),,,,good luck

Most all oil leaks come from either the drain plug leaking or the oil sending unit. Neither is extremely expensive to repair. It is rare to have an oil pan leaking.

Have it repaired or just keep putting oil into it as necessary. That works too.

Sounds like you need to have the valve cover gaskets replaced. They are probably leaking and the oil is getting into your starter, that is why it is cranking slow, eventually it will die completely and leave you stranded. Oil in an electrical motor is not good for the motor.

sounds like a weak cell in your battery, ifso only thing you can do is put another battery in auto zone or advance auto has a machine they hook up on it and it will tell you exactly what the problem is. your odor problem is. the oil is getting down onto the exhaust manifold and burning it off. as long as it isnt running oil out of your car youre alright to go.

You might need to do an oil change or just check the the rubber have not perished (if they have this could be you problem) also check that your battery is connected properly because if you keep trying to start your car to no avail you will flood your engine(and that's expensive) i recommend that you just call you local garage an explane it to them. because with out looking at your car i cant help.
