If your gonna live in Texas why not Austin?

Um...most of the industry is in Houston.

I have a job in my field in Houston. Austin just doesn't have enough high paying, technical jobs to support all of Texas.

What an ignorant and uninformed question. One would think that if you were so interested in "souls" (implying some degree of spirituality) that you would not have the meaness or crassness to insult several million people, even if you were right. The problem, however, is that you are not right and the city of Houston has numerous reasons to recommend it as a place to live (too many to waste my time listing for someone apparently with their mind already closed to any objective reasoning). Suffice to say that I have lived in Austin and Houston both for a good number of years and I can list equal amounts of great things and not so great things about both cities. Wise up.

Austin isn't that great. Houston has good and bad parts but so does every major city. I like Houston better because there is more to do than Austin.

Jobs. More money in Houston, than in Austin. A simple fact, how many chemical plants do you know of in Austin? None.

Shell Oil Co, Exxon, and all the rest are here in Houston, not Austin.

Also their are more people in the medical field here as well, because, we have the worst air in the USA.
Yes, we beat San Francisco for bad air. I wish it was not true, but it is.

i agree with a previous answer, i too have lived in both cities and can find pros and cons with both. i have yet to figure out why houston has such a bad rep when most of the people saying bad things have either never been to houston or have merely visited. there are plenty of great places to live in texas besides austin, try fort worth!

Austin isn't for everyone... If you're not into greenbelts, live music, independent shops, non-chain restaurants, and getting away with wearing jeans just about everywhere, you might prefer Houston.

The same reason why anyone lives where they live. Either they really like it there, they have a great job opportunity there, they have family there, etc.

It is possible to like Houston.
