It all depends on where you live. In some areas Cable is cheaper and some places DSL is cheaper.

The cheapest broadband ISP that I know of, which conveniently is available in most of the U.S., is Verizon. For 768 / 386 kbps DSL, you can sign up for a 1 or 2 year contract for merely 17 dollars a month.

I would check out http://www.verizon.net and browse the site. Verify they serve your area of residence and then order away!
