I'm quite talented when it comes to writing essays & articles in college assignments & so i've thought that it might be nice if i do a diploma in journalism but i'm not sure whether a diploma would be enough or not. Also i'm doubtful that only doing good in class assignments ensures that i can be a good journalist.I like to be a freelance writer. Plz give your opinions.

Doing a diploma doesnt help. You need to learnt he art of writing in different fields in Mass Commuication. I am doing my bachelors in Mass Communication, majoring in Journalism. this 3 year course not only allows u to write stories, you need to understand your surroundings to whom yuou are writing for. A diploma will help for just basics, but news writing, or writing needs you to know what people what. In this Bachelors Degree, i am learning Marketing, Public Relations, Organisational Communication, Media. Its all co-related. Each one needs the other part for a better outcome.

I've been a journalist for more than 30 years. I graduated with a Bachelor of Journalism Degree in Broadcast News from the University of Missouri School of Journalism, which I believe is the best in the world for preparing reporters and editors. If you go there, you get hands-on experience working on real daily newspapers, an NBC affiliate television station and in radio -- not just working on a campus newspaper. It prepared me well.
If you go to some other school and major in mass communications or journalism, you should also get all the outside experience you can. You should intern at a local newspaper during the summers, publish any free-lance articles you can, and work on campus publications. You should also read voraciously, especially the news, be it national, local, business or sports. Hope this helps. Good luck to you :).

It takes a lot of hard work and time to become a journalist. This field of workmanship needs someone who is able to reach into the depths of a story and bring forth the true meaning of it's history and then get individuals to read it. Work hard if this is what you'd like to do.
