Absolutely legal. Tough luck for shady employees, but essential to protect the customers privacy and security. Employees always have the option of resigning.

Answer would probably be different from state to state check with your Department of Labor in that state and also look on the Internet for HR web sites that will be human resources that the ones who dictate the policies. For your employer but no employer can go outside the federal or state laws that pertain to hiring.
I can't see anyone hiring you without first checking your references you probably can type into your server what to do about personal problems in your state to have a will real big web site concerning work-related problems.

Yes. Sometimes customers who are that important to the company can pretty much dictate to the company if the company wants thier business bad enough. If you lied on your job application about any of the above you mentioned, it could go against your credability, especially when security of accounts is an issue

Yes, it is, since that information is in the "public record". In Wisconsin all you need to do is plug in a person's name into a government website, and you can find our every traffic violation, divorce, bankruptcy finling, criminal charges, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if it's that easy in Illinois either.
PS Don't do the crime if you don't want your name posted on the internet.

Yep. Criminal activity is not protected as are ethinic groups, or sexual orientation. So they have the right to investigate it. If they discover illegal activity, you can be let go.
An employer has the right to verify their employees, and the information they are receiving is public knowledge. I could look it up without your permission.

It is legal but unless you have lied about something on your application then they can't fire you. They might defer their customer to someone else if you have something that they don't feel comfortable dealing with. Good Luck

Unfortunately, this is what the liberals are bringing this country to. They trust no one and don't believe anyone can change. That is because they can't. But, to answer your question, yep, they can.

They can do anything they want. The local labor board won't do much to help you ..... you should have joined a union.. at least they would stand up for your rights.
