If you do not put 3,000 miles on your vehicle in 3 months, you should change your oil. A car should be driven at least 15 minutes daily at highway speeds. This allows the oil to get to operating temperature to effectively protect your engine. If you do not drive this much daily, your oil's additives cannot effectively do their job, thus creating more sludge in your engine. I am a military mechanic and have been for 13 years. This information should also be your owner's manual. This also depends on what type of oil you are using, ie; senthetic, etc.

I do 3 months. I bought an 06' PT Cruiser seven months ago , I have had the car serviced twice already. The car only has 2,900 miles on it. I've been told I am wasting money, I think not. In 30 years of own cars, I have never had an engine problem.Short trip driving is very hard on your car and ruins your oil fast.Do months if do not drive the car that much.$100.00 a year or $4,000 for a new engine???? hmmm, I choose $100.00 a year.I also own a 1990 Honda Accord,197,000 miles, engine never touched and uses any oil between oil changes.

the vehicle you're driving has been set particular producer's concepts and those are a coaching on your motorcar. i'll besides the undeniable fact that allow you to know that you need to do a seen verify of you oil a minimum of once per week to make certain when you're burning oil or perhaps if the oil is grimy or burnt searching. those are key caution signs and indications of over use of the motorcar engine and may create unusual placed on on the engine aspects it is continuously undesirable. basically with the help of going with the help of a producer's suggestion isn't a sturdy theory because if the motorcar develops a topic then the three month or 3000 miles might want to ruin the engine aspects that would want to be more desirable severe priced for upkeep then basically taking a short oil interpreting your self.

Neither, 7000 miles is fine.
3000 is a myth.
If you look at an accord for example, the engines are all built in Japan, but the US say 3000 miles for a change, and Europe Say 12000 for a change. It's the same engine.

if you live by the 3000 mile rule, you'll be fine..........some people drive more, or less in 3 mos, and it's a waste to change oil with only 2000 on it.
