I know there may not be too many doctors around but if you have had this terrible experience,

How long did you spend with a cast?
How long did it take to bend your knee?
How long did it take to be able to walk again (if not normally something close to that)?

Cast was 6 weeks for me. Get a metal Coat Hanger and straighten it out. Put a very small curve on the end so it easy to scratch. I bent the other end so it was easy to turn inside the cast and position the little curve. Do not make it too big, a slight curve.
My knee could bend in about a week of slowly working it, a little more everyday to get movement back. It does hurt now when it going to rain, so, I work as a local weatherman, OK well maybe not, but, it does have problems at different times of weather.
I was walking with the cast and crutch. The Doctor showed me how to put a certain amount of weight on the legs by using a bathroom scale. After two weeks I started doing this adding 10% of body weight pressure and get the feel looking at the scale. When the Cast was off it took a few days to walk without a crutch.
This was about 7 years ago now. Each person may have different circumstances. Heck the first time I broke my Femur? The bone above the knee. They Screwed this metal rod to it and I used the scales again and no cast, started walking the next day with a crutch and adding 10% each week to the weight..

ouch my sympathies. Do you mean the kneecap or the underlying bones. It would depend on whether its a bunch of small breaks or a long bone fracture. It will take a while so follow whatever your doctor says you don't want to end up with a longterm injury. When my daughter broke her hip she was on crutches for only a few weeks after they pinned it but it took a long time for the pain to go away completely.

there's no distinction between a wreck and a fracture. you may stroll as long as you do no longer bend your leg. The kneecap is principally sensible for bending it. Get an x ray and verify it does not require corrective surgical operation, then positioned a knee brace on that stops you from bending the leg besides as keeps it collectively. Sleep with your leg above the middle to decrease the swelling. whilst the swelling is decreased this isn't any longer painful to stroll. do basically no longer bend it. it is going to final 6 to twelve weeks.
