The MIND is a subtle body simultaneously existing within the same space as the plysical body. The physical body contains a specialized muscle, we call the PHYSICAL brain. The brain CANNOT perceive the MIND realm. As for "consciousness" it is neither physical, nor of the MIND, it is an aspect of the Soul.

The mind (or the soul) is the emergent property of a collection of neural pathways working together and is therefore not a separate entity like you suggested. We just don't understand it yet but before he died Dr Crick (the man who shared the nobel prize for discovering DNA with his partner) was developing some very good theories involving the frontal lobe. The "soul" is a myth which in the distant past was developed in order to explain consciousness and unfortunately because people like to believe in something greater than themselves along with the intricacies of the brain which has been very difficult to work out since its not the perfect coupling between form and function, this myth hasn't been easy to disprove and has persisted in various guises for ages. Essentially, we are biological machines. Our brain is no more than a vastly superior CPU and our mind is like the software programs that runs on the computer; our sensory equipment (eyes, ears, touch, etc ) is merely the interface between our brain and the environment, which supports the brain by providing constant stimulation. If our brain stops working, our mind dies and so does our body. There is nothing supernatural or spiritual about it.

Consider this, there is a rare condition where human babies are born without a frontal lobe. You can shine a light through their head in the dark and get a glowing orb efffect (a simple trick done by neurosurgeons/neurologists) because a significant proportion of the skull contains cerebral spinal fluid instead of the frontal lobe part of the brain while the skull of a newborn is relatively thin and transparent. Without the rudimentary structures for intelligent thought, these children never develop a consciousness. So with this mind how can you argue that the "consciousness" is not physical.

Though your physical description is accurate I do have to add in that when it comes to use of the term mind within the subtext of feeling and emotion the word is correct to use in terms of the English language but if writing a scientific paper then your albeit short explanation is one that would be used. Please note that the brain is the organ where by neural pathways and synapse firings help you determine such concepts and you should also note that the conscious mind is not a separate entity in fact it is simply different neural pathways firing resulting in the conscious mind determine information and applying it. The subconscious is often aroused or applied or used while in rem sleep as it is part of the brain that allows the dream sequence to be stimulated and depending on the brainwave activity a subconscious action may be attributed to 'Freudian slips' leaving home and arriving at your destination without consciously remembering how you arrived. I hope that helps!

I think people understand that the mind is not an actual physical body, but they use the words mind and brain interchangeably my mistake. I don't think they are trying to use these words incorrectly. Like I said, I think they are just undereducated about this topic.

The mind is a program running in the organic computer of the brain.

Unless, of course, out thoughts are nothing more than a series of complex chemical reactions and we have no soul.

Annoying thing is, there is not enough evidence to really answer that question in any definite way. It's all about what you really choose to believe. We all have to find our own truth.
