You can have nothing because you're poor, not necessarily because you want to be poor. I don't think your mind will be cleared. Instead you'll most likely feel like crap and visions of failure will haunt you almost every time. There are some exceptional cases like the Peace Pilgrim but if everyone decided to be like her, the world economy would collapse. I really don't see how material goods corrupt. If you're paying a million dollars for a purse, it's most likely because you're an idiot; thus even if you had nothing, you'll still find some way to waste every penny you earned. The better quote would be, he who knows more, has (almost) everything.

Biblically, who has nothing, as asks, shall have salvation, but who has much, will not ask for fear of losing what he has.
I think, those who have little appreciate what they do have much more than those who are overwhelmed with belongings, but lack the perspective to know how well they have it. One gets caught up in the owning, and loses the sheer joy of possession which a poor man feels for the things he does own.
Bottom line, it's easier to count a handful of stuff than a roomful.

it is like if you learn and can live with out any thing, then you don't need any thing, - means you can enjoy the state of mind that you have got everything that you ever need and now you don't have to worry for any thing and you can have all the time to enjoy and be with nature.

what is better - to be poor or rich?
