It doesn't really make a difference for the test.
I've always peed into a clean up and dipped the stick. I've never had a problem doing it that way. There should be a note included in the instructions for how long to dip the stick for. If there isn't one, I would call the 800 number on the box and ask them how long.
I'm sorry... I can shoot a rifle and hit my target pretty well... but I can't for the life of me pee to hit a target so it's always the cup for me! :-)

Follow the directions that came with your test. I believe most of them will say it is okay to use a cup.
It seems to me that going midstream can have a risk of not getting enough urine to get an accurate test, and it is hard to imagine that dipping in a cup could cause a problem, so where the manufacturer lets you do it either way, I'd go with the cup. If the instructions don't say that it is okay to use a cup, then don't use a cup.
"Q: How do I perform the test?
A: You should use midstream urine -- meaning you should pee a little first and then either hold the test stick in your urine stream or use a collection cup. If you would like to collect urine in a cup even though you bought a stick test, you need to hold the absorbant tip of the stick in the cup of urine for 5-10 seconds (TCPI, Inc. says this is more accurate for their tests). Otherwise follow the directions with the test."

I took the test in a cup. I thought it would be too hard to hold the test midstream and count the 5 seconds recommended that the tip be saturated. I just went in the cup and then dipped in the stick.

Really you can do either, just make sure when you do midstream that you can pee for 5-10 seconds to make sure there is enough on the stick.
Good luck!

I would say midstream, but either would work. If you use the cup method, just dip it in and then take it out.

Midstream from the first urine of the day is the most accurate.

Hmmm I have never had a different result from one way or the other and I have taken several both ways but I always feel more confident in the cup method.
