You need to switch the make up you use. I am an expert here as I attended barbizon modeling school, theatre arts collegiate level trainnig in stage make up.
Find a mary kay rep. and buy their foundation the compact stuff that you put on with a sponge, lightly apply it, these ladies will show you how if you have a party. You may be using too much, it takes very little. Keep in mind that makeup should appear as though you have none on. then you need a loose powder the kind you have to put on with a large makeup brush. This will give you a shine free, flowing look.
Of all the makeup I have ever used, mary kay IS THE BEST! It is light weight, flawless and the parties are great fun and you learn how to apply it and get tips from the rep and other women.
It is expensive but no more than the uppity brands at Lazarus or Macy's and those aren't near as good.
Also a tip is if you see another gal with nice makeup you like don't be afraid to ask her what and where.
PS> mary kay also is good for the skin and they sell a whole line of cleansing products, the cleanser, toner, mousterizer, make sure you do this before and after applying make up. As well as a mask weekly to unclog your pores. If you have oily skin you need an alchohol based toner to dry your skin, if you have dry sking you need extra moisture.

I only use liquid foundation and blusher which i apply with a brush that takes some of the shine off and gives me a good colour too.
You could try applying your powder with a brush instead of the pad and see if it goes on lighter and neater.
I always moisturise before i put my foundation on as well, and a good facial scrub once a week is good for your skin too.

Try some of the mineral powder foundations instead (Sheer Cover, Bare Essentials, Neutrogena, etc). They seem to do a better job of light, smooth coverage than the liquids do.

you best best is to start out with a clean palatte(aka your face), cleanse your face, apply a light moisturizer, apply your foundation(always with clean hands), use a big brush to appy powder to your face, i like translucent powder best, if your powder is making it look like that its probably old or the foundation is old. they really dont last all that long and you should change them out often because of germs and stuff which will make your situation worse

Exfoliate! Moisturize! Your foundation needs a clean, smooth foundation under it! lol!
Make sure that your face is clean, exfoliated of dead skin cells, and moisturized. If you are prone to breakouts or oily skin find a moisturizer right for you.

I stoped using liquid foundation for that same reason. Loreal's bare minerale is awsome, I never thought it would give me the same coverage the other stuff provided. And my skin looks soo much better now. You can find it on sale at www.ulta.com

As a guy I say: screw foundation. It always LOOKS like you're wearing it and when I kiss you it tastes horrible. Odds are you look better without it anyway.

Don't wear it. Make up isn't that great for your skin. All of my friends that wore foundation now have blotchy skin....Stop before you make things worse. Beside that...guys don't really like it either.
