I hate this question. people ask it basically about each day. I comprehend it truly is not any longer you specially, besides the undeniable fact that the shortcoming of understanding of the question irks me. basically because a woman seems "butch" or masculine on the exterior, they're nevertheless a woman on the interior. (except they're transgendered, that's a diverse tale) for this reason, they nevertheless have the sentiments of a woman- and it is the reason ladies who're lesbians do not basically, "detect a guy." the exterior is one ingredient, yet interior is more desirable significant, highly with women persons. no longer to practice the very undeniable reality that butch ladies, masculine ladies, and androgynous ladies all have vaginas, no longer penises.

Thank you. I was wondering about that myself. It's stupid. But not all lesbians are in the butch/femme stuff. Sometimes there are just two femmes. But I never see two butches/doms.

Being a lesbian or a heterosexual female does not predicate whether you are 'butch' or not. What about heterosexual girls that are tomboys? Or 'lipstick' lesbians? We are the way we are because of our hormonal and genetic makeup. Its like asking why you dress the way you do? You don't really know? It just feels comfortable and you like it. You are drawn to blue vice yellow (or whatever). You like denim but not pleather. Nobody needs to be anything ... we just do what feels comfortable and don't worry about the how's or why's.

I'm gonna have to agree with Nottingham man. It's the same thing with men acting like girls. I would much rather see a tomboy, or butch girl, then a flaming boy. but if I had my choice, I would rather see neither!

That's a good damned question, Boo! I think it's sick for a woman to hate men, yet want to look like and assume his characteristics...same goes for gays (males...and not men!). It's called "gender dysmorphic disorder"; a bonified psychiatric disorder. To hell with all you pro-homosexual apologists!
Just proves how perverse homosexuality really is...the APA (American Psychology Association) should re-list it in the DSM-IV as a mental illness despite all these radical homosexual groups!

I don't think they feel they need to be butch because they are gay. It's just how they feel comfortable. There used to be a time when it was called being a tomboy, and most are actually not gay.

Yes, it does miss the point! I agree completely! I'm a bisexual girl, and just because I like girls doesn't mean I'm going to dress like a dude. But I'm not a butch, so I wouldn't know.
There is a possibility that some 'butches' have gender Dysphoria though, possibly.

best answer came from the first guy, neilhp. It's all about anatomy. Most of the time women aren't as visual as men, so it's more about emotional well being. I live by the saying, "there's someone for everyone."

I have always wondered that myself! I'm not a lesbian but if I was I'd want a pretty girly girl not a manly one.
